If there's one thing Allparts ‘Licensed by Fender’ necks are best known for, it would that they are correct. And that includes having the truss rod adjustment at the heel.
Where the specs may differ – neck profiles, fretboard radiuses, etc – the headstock size/shape and truss rod adjustment are consistent.
The heel adjustment is, very simply, vintage correct. Early Fender instruments were built this way.
Keeping the adjustment at the heel allowed for one-piece neck designs, whilst keeping the headstock at the nut strong (no wood needed to be removed here). Also, it looks great! The headstock is clean without a channel or cover for the headstock adjustment.
But the heel adjustment isn’t without its problems. It can be hard to access, often requiring the neck to be removed, or at the very least loosened. Plus, you do need a specialist tool, like a large screwdriver or t-handle wrench.
That’s why Allparts introduced the MOD series necks. They give you the same great ‘Licensed by Fender’ spec but with the adjustment at the headstock.
So, it really comes down to this:
Vintage accuracy, or modern convenience?
